These books are in the public domain. Why would I pay?
You don’t have to — the texts are free to read elsewhere, and we say so on every book page. Your purchase pays for our formatted EPUB edition, the online reader in your account, and lifetime re-downloads from your library. Read the free sample first and decide whether the edition is worth it to you.
What exactly do I get when I buy a book?
Two things, delivered to your account the moment KPay confirms payment: (1) a DRM-free EPUB file you can download and keep, and (2) full access to the book in our online reader. Both stay in My library for as long as your account exists.
Can I read a sample before buying?
Yes. Every book has a “Read a free sample” button that opens the first part of the book in our online reader. No account or payment is needed, and reading the sample never affects your refund rights.
Which devices and apps can I read on?
The EPUB opens in Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo e-readers and most other reading apps. For a Kindle, send the EPUB to your device with Amazon’s Send to Kindle service, which converts it automatically. Or skip files altogether and read in any web browser with our online reader.
Do you sell Kindle (AZW3) or Kobo (KEPUB) files?
Not at the moment — every book comes as a standard EPUB. Kobo e-readers open EPUB files directly, and Kindles accept EPUBs through Send to Kindle.
Are the books complete and unabridged?
Yes. Each book is the complete text as prepared by Standard Ebooks’ volunteer editors, who proofread it against scans of early printed editions and lightly modernise some spelling and punctuation following their published style guide.
Does the online reader remember where I stopped?
Yes, on each device: your reading position, theme and text size are saved in your own browser’s local storage, not on our servers. The only reading activity we record is whether you have opened or downloaded a book you bought, because that decides refund eligibility.
A note on older books
Classic books reflect the times they were written in. Some contain language and attitudes that many readers today will find offensive. We publish the texts complete and unaltered.
How do I pay?
We accept KPay QR and KPay Request-to-Pay. At checkout either scan a one-time QR code with your KPay app, or enter your KPay mobile number and approve the request we send to your wallet. See How to pay for step-by-step instructions.
When will I receive my order?
Delivery is automatic and usually takes under a minute after KPay confirms your payment. Everything appears in your account (Orders and My library) and we email you a receipt. If a manual check is needed we complete it within a few hours during support hours.
Do you ship anything physical?
No. Everything we sell is digital and delivered to your account online. There are no shipping fees.
Is paying with KPay safe?
Yes. Payments are authorised inside your KPay app with your own PIN or biometrics. We never see or store your wallet PIN, card or bank login. Our site uses HTTPS everywhere.
I paid but my order still shows “awaiting payment”.
Keep the payment page open for a minute — it updates automatically. If it still has not updated, do not pay again; contact us with your order number and the KPay transaction reference and we will reconcile it.
Can I get a refund?
Unused items (codes not revealed, files not downloaded, content not played or streamed) can be refunded within 14 days. Faulty items are always eligible. Request a refund from your order page. Approved refunds go back to your KPay account. Full details are in our Refund Policy.
Do I need an account?
Yes — an account keeps your purchases safe, lets you re-download items and view your codes, and lets us verify ownership if you need support.
How do I delete my account or download my data?
Go to Account → Privacy & data. You can download a copy of your data or permanently delete your account at any time.
